Sony Playstation Empire Crumbling.

Check out this link to a VERY pessimistic NY Times article on Sony's sinking revenue:

I seem to recall NY Times posting nasty articles on SEGA 12 years ago. How ironic!

Sony's financial situation is worsening and it seems like they don't realize that if their Electronics division doesn't improve then kiss SCEI goodbye. I already see Sony headed towards dark waters. They no longer have quality in their non gaming brands. Their products are way too overpriced and overrated and their Playstation game division is pulling in FAR less profit then they were 11 years ago.

Well, the sooner they can get the hell out of the hardware business and restructure their primary older electronic divisions, the sooner SEGA can step back in.

Sony is continuing to take in massive losses in revenue despite modest profit in SCEI, Sony is predicting a massive $6 billion dollar loss for the ending fiscal of 2012.

10,000 employees will be layed off worldwide. Sony's primary revenue its electronics division is struggling and has been for several years. Despite that, many fanboys ignore the fact that these losses are making PS4 less and less a reality.

SEGA fans can see that Sony's problems are just beginning and that they won't be the gaming hardware business much longer. The projection is that by 2014 20 years to the day SCEI formed, SCEI could exist no more and be completely bankrupt.

While I sound a bit biased, I will say this, THE chickens are coming home to roost for Sony.

If the losses continue the projection and prediction is this:

If Sony loses even MORE revenue for FY 2013 between even 3-5 billion then Sony will announce and confirm a $23 billion dollar loss on Playstation 3 and will then announce that Sony Computer Entertainment International is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

SCEI will then be split and restructured into two divisions: a 3rd party software division Sony Computer Software(Formerly Sony Imagesoft) and a 2nd party OEM Sony Computer Electronics.

Once Sony thankfully FINALLY leaves the game hardware business, they'll revert back to what they were doing before Playstation: Manufacturing 2nd party game hardware for other console manufacturers paticuarly Nintendo.

As for Sony's software division, they'll support SEGA's Orbit/Sega RingEdge, Mircosoft's Xbox Durango, the Sega DC Pad/SegaPod and Nintendo 3DS. Sony is still angry and bitter over the failure of the Super CD/Super Famicom CD project, so they'll avoid Wii U.

As for what happens to Playstation? Well by 2014, It could be completely broke. Through that scenario, Sony will relent the patents of its Playstation 1, PSone,Slim PS2(Toshiba owns Playstation 2's patent design),PSP and EVEN VITA. Sony will no longer hold those patents but they'll still protect the rights to Playstation 3 and will still manufacture the console as they want to keep it alive until 2016 and mean business when they say that.

Unlike SEGA who's protected Saturn and Dreamcast, Sony will only be able to protect PS3.
